
Iceland is truly a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and photographers, the land of fire and ice offers an incredible variety of breathtaking landscapes.
This winter photo-workshop is perfect for those who visiting Iceland for the very first time or those who want to get different atmospheres and lights on main spots along Snaefellsnes peninsula, Golden Circle and the south coast. Period is pretty good for aurora activity and ice caves.
We will be focused on iconic winter sceneries and during night sessions the moonlight will reveal subtle details of nightscapes looks like from another world.
Each single day we will be focus on twilight (sunrise / sunset) and also approach shooting day favoring the use of neutral density filters in order to properly expose our scenes or create long exposures.
However, Icelandic changing weather conditions can be challenging and our challenge will be to take you at the right place at the right time to capture the magical moment.
Tours includes all nights in guesthouse, lunches, breakfasts and mini-bus 4×4 transportation.
Duration : 10 days / 9 nights – Limited to 7 people.
ITINERARY
DAY 1 : REYKJAVIK / MEETING / WELCOME DINNER
After your arrival at Keflavik airport, shuttle will bring you to your hotel at Reykjavik Downtown. Then we will meet early evening to enjoy welcome dinner and discuss all together.
DAYS 2 / 3 / 4 : SNAEFELLSNES PENINSULA / GOLDEN CIRCLE / THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK
Today starts our adventure and we will drive towards the Snaefellsnes peninsula where we spend the night in a cottage at the foot of famous Kirkjufell. Program of the day, sunset at Kirkufell, dinner in a local restaurant and then we will go hunting Northern Lights. The next day, we will go photograph the other part of the peninsula and its many photogenic places. Day 4 we will leave capturing the wonders of the Golden Circle where we spend the night in a guesthouse a few steps from Thingvellir lake.
DAYS 5 / 6 / 7 : KVERNUFOSS / SKOGAFOSS / DYRHOLAYE / VIK / SKAFTAFELL / JOKULSARLON
After breakfast, the day begins with a sunrise session at the geothermal area of Geysir. Then we head towards the south coast for a meeting “slow exposure” at the famous Skogafoss. In passing, we take a well-deserved lunch in a restaurant facing Skogafoss. After lunch, head for Kvernufoss a beautiful secret waterfall in the heart of a volcanic valley. A favorite place!
Then we continue our journey along the south coast, this time to the famous cliffs and beaches of Vik and Dyrholaye with the menu : Sunset shooting of Reynisdrangar and lava columns sculpted by the sea. Night at Vik.
Early in the morning, we will take a picture of the sunrise on the black sand beache Reynisfjara and its famous volcanic sea stacks.
We start this time in beautiful park Skaftafell entangled by glacial tongues of Vatnajökull glacier. Stop on the way to have lunch at a nice restaurant.
In the afternoon, we will go to the Svinafellsjökull Glacier and its glacial lake full of icebergs, located at the foot of Iceland’s highest mountain, Hvannadalshnjúkur, to capture the sunset until blue hour.
Then we will go to our next accomodation where we will spend the next 3 nights just a stone’s throw from the lagoon glacier, Jokulsarlon.
After dinner, we will go to the lagoon to try to capture the aurora if the weather permits.
DAYS 7 / 8 / 9 : VATNAJOKULL GLACIER / JOKULSARLON LAGOON & BEACH / BREIDARLON LAKE / HOFN
We’ll start the day early so we get to Jokulsarlon for sunrise. At twilight menu breakfast, lights, Vatnajokull glacier lagoon and black sand beaches dotted with icebergs. Post-treatment and lunch break in a museum restaurant in the area. In the late afternoon we return to Jokulsarlon and we stay the night to capture the sunset and the aurora borealis.
The next morning, we start with a gentle sunrise glacial lake Breiðárlón. There is a calm water or icebergs are frozen almost at our feet, just a few meters from the beautiful mountains encased in ice.
We will try to explore the ice caves during these 3 days around the glacier (only if the weather allows us accessibility).
We had lunch and then we take Road Höfn, littered with a succession of magnificent glaciers. Horn and we’re going up for a sunset session and northlights. Back to our accommodation for dinner and have a good night trying toshoot NL again.
DAYS 9 & 10 : PHOTO STOP ALONG THE SOUTH COAST ON THE WAY BACK TO REYKJAVIK / GOOD BYE DINNER
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. After breakfast, we take the road with the city of Reykjavik as the end point for the early evening. The last day will be distributed along the south coast with some pictures and local meal times.
This is the time to discover and photograph the missed some other atmospheres and compositions on places already visited or missed.
There is a choice between the surroundings of Jokusarlon, Skaftafell park or Vik. Be chosen according to the desires of each of the timing, the weather conditions and light. Drop off at your hotel at Reykjavik late afternoon, early evening we will enjoy good bye dinner. Night well deserved at your hotel and departure.
GOOD TO KNOW
- To participate in this trip you must have or purchase travel insurance, must be healthy and bring warm and waterproof clothing to evolve in nature with peace of mind.
- You will need an SLR or mirrorless camera, good tripod, a rain cover for your camera, several batteries and memory cards.
Regarding lenses .. The most used is the wide angle but a telephoto lens like 70 – 200 mm is recommended for minimalist images.
Also remote control and neutral density filters goal is even better.
- We will have editing lectures when we will be at our accommodation.
I would put a provision a MacBookPro. It’s up to you if you want to bring your computer.
